WASHINGTON D,C, United States of America

The US State Department has said it will work with the new president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, but urged him to address reports of electoral irregularities.

He will be sworn in on Thursday.

Previously, the US had condemned the lack of transparency over the result, which many observers say was rigged by Mr Tshisekedi and the outgoing president, Joseph Kabila.

Following the Constitutional Court ruling that threw out his rival opposition candidate, Martin Fayulu, African presidents came out to congratulate Mr Tshisekedi.
