The National Assembly and Senate leaders are expected to attend the conference even as calls to dissolve the two Houses intensify over failure to pass the two-thirds gender rule.

According to a report by Citizen TV, chairpersons and deputies of various committees would also be present in the meeting which would start at 10:30am.

Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka confirmed he will attend the meeting. Photo: Ken Lusaka.

Release of BBI report

The release of the second Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report would feature prominently with Uhuru and former prime minister Raila Odinga set to release it, setting the stage for political reforms and possible referendum.

“I expect the meeting to focus on how best to work together to push the government legislative agenda,” Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka said.

Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata who is also the Murang’a senator said the summit would take stock of the gains made so far in enacting state’s policies.

“The government is happy with the good work done by Senate in the last four months; we have processed a record 10 Bills including County Attorney Bill, County Revenue Appropriation Bill, and County Government Amendment Bill. We have entered into a historical deal where counties will get an extra KSh 50 billion. I expect that we will discuss how to ensure government business flows in the House without a hitch,” he said.

Parliament dissolution case

As was earlier reportedChief Justice David Maraga had asked Uhuru to dissolve Parliament over its failure to enact the two-third gender rule.

Two petitioners, however, rushed to court under a certificate of urgency to challenge the constitutionality of the advisory.

The court suspended the advisory and on Wednesday, October 14, the CJ appointed a five-judge bench led by Lady Justice Lydia Achode to give further directions on hearing of the application and petition.
