UGANDA: Returnees from India test positive to coronavirus, 9 infections are recorded on Friday.

KAMPALA — The Ministry of Health has on Friday July 3 confirmed 9 new cases from 3349 samples tested on Thursday July 2. The cumulative confirmed cases of Uganda is 911.

Of the 9 confirmed cases for are truck drivers, three are contacts and karts identified from Amuru and Kyotera Districts while two are Indians, who returned on July 1 from Mumbai India. The Ministry of Health says they were all under quarantine at the time of test. Regarding truck drivers, two arrived from Kenya via Malaba while the others arrived from South Sudan and Tanzania respectively. The update also indicates that 11 truck drivers (Kenyans 10, and Tanzania 1) tested positive and were reportedly denied entry into Uganda.

Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services at the Ministry of Health says there 197 active cases on admission. These he says include 172 Ugandans, 6 refugees and 19 foreigners. “It is important to note that foreigners and refugees are admitted in our health facilities but are not captured in the cumulative confirmed cases,” Dr. Mwebesa clarified. He added that to date, Uganda has a total of 849 recoveries. These also include Ugandans and non Ugandans. There’s no reported coronavirus reported death.
