Newly appointed State Minister for Economic Monitoring Molly Kamukama has declared her intention to contest for the Kazo district Woman Parliamentary seat in 2021.

Kamukama, formerly Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to President Yoweri Museveni on Monday afternoon declared on her Twitter account that she will bid to represent the newly created district as Woman Member of Parliament.

“Yesterday, I made public my wish to serve the people of Kazo District as their Woman Representative in Parliament. I’ll focus on growing household incomes & supervising implementation of gov’t programs. Thank you Archbishop Bakyenga for blessing the journey I have embarked on,” she tweeted.

Kazo is among the six newly created districts that became operational in July 2019. It was carved out of Kiruhura district. The others are; Obongi, Rwampara, Kitagwenda, Madi-Okollo and Karenga.

It is the first time Kamukama is joining elective politics. Following President Museveni’s re-election in 2016, Kamukama was named PPS, replacing Mary Amajo, who was then appointed Senior Presidential Advisor on Public Service.

Prior to the PPS appointment, Kamukama was Political Assistant to the President. During the cabinet reshuffle of December, 2019, President Museveni named his PPS Kamukama State Minister for Economic Monitoring. She was replaced by Dr. Kenneth Omona .
