Uganda coronavirus cases rise to 139

The new cases are from truck drivers comprising of 7 Ugandans who arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula, 5 Kenyans who arrived from South Sudan via the Elegu border and an Eritrean who arrived from Kenya via Malaba.

According to the ministry of Health, a total of 2,104 samples were tested on Wednesday and all the 363 community samples tested negative.

Of Uganda’s 136 cases, over 70 are from truck drivers and Uganda has not registered any community cases in the last two week. On Wednesday, 5 Tanzanian drivers who had been admitted at Arua regional referral hospital were discharged after recovering from the virus.

From Kabale regional referral hospital, a Kenyan truck driver was also discharged after recovering from coronavirus. The Kenyan driver was admitted at the hospital after being intercepted by authorities in Kisoro district while en route to Rwanda last month on April 25.

In the region, Kenya registered Kenya 22 new cases and 4 new deaths to take its total to 737 confirmed cases and 40 deaths.

Rwanda recorded one new case to rise its national tally to 287. Tanzania’s cases still stand at 509 with the last update coming in on April 29. Similarly, Burundi’s has made no updates in over 3 weeks but the country’s cases still stand at 15.

South Sudan reported 9 new cases to rise its national tally to 203.
