KAMPALA, Uganda

At least 27 pornography sites have been blocked in fulfillment of a directive by the Uganda Communications (UCC).

This comes after the executive director of UCC, Mr. Godfrey Mutabazi, in July penned a letter to telecommunication companies and internet service providers, ordering them to “ensure that pornographic material is not uploaded or downloaded through its services,”

According to Dr. Annette Kezaabu, head of Uganda’s Pornographic Control committee, noted that there is a drop in the number of people accessing pornography after they blocked the prominent pornographic sites.

She commented: “As I speak, we have a team that is compiling a list of other porn sites that will be blocked. We anticipate that some people will open up new sites but this is a continuous process,”

Dr. Kezaabu noted that the compiled list will be sent to UCC that will order internet service providers to block them.

But, subscribers with a virtual private network (VPN) will be able to connect and access the banned pornography sites.
