LONDON, United Kingdom
British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced she will resign as Conservative Party leader on 7 June, following months of pressure over the Brexit deal.
Addressing parliament, Mrs May said she had done her best to get her withdrawal agreement through parliament and to give people what they had voted for in the Brexit referendum of 2016.
She noted that as she resigns, she will leave with a deep regret to have disappointed the people of the United Kingdom by “not been able to deliver Brexit.”
Mrs. May added that as she leaves office, the doors are now open to welcome a new capable person who will step in her shoes as the new PM.
