The World Health Organisation (WHO) confirmed there is "emerging evidence" of airborne transmission of the coronavirus following the publication of a letter Monday signed by 239 scientists that urged the agency to be more forthcoming about the likelihood that people can catch the virus from droplets floating in the air.Dr Benedetta Alleganzi, WHO Technical Lead for Infection Prevention and Control, said during a briefing yesterday, that the agency has discussed and collaborated with many of the scientists who signed the letter. Facebook has said it will start to label potentially harmful posts that it leaves up because of their news value. The more hands-on approach comes as the social media firm is under pressure to improve how it moderates the content on its platform, including posts by US President Donald Trump. More than 90 advertisers have joined a boycott of the site. Consumer goods giant Unilever on Friday added its name to the list, citing a "polarized election period" in the US. The maker of Dove soap and Ben & Jerry's ice cream said it would halt Twitter, Facebook and Instagram advertising in the US "at least" through 2020. Three men have been arrested in Iran on suspicion of trying to sell two babies on Instagram. Tehran's police chief, Brig-Gen Hossein Rahimi, said one of the children was 20 days old. The other was two months old. The babies had already been bought for up to $500 (£400), and were being resold for between $2,000 and $2,500. One of those arrested allegedly said he was "getting babies from poor families" and "handing them over to families who could provide a better future". Brig-Gen Rahimi told local media that police officers had been alerted to "ads on Instagram for selling babies". The officers uncovered "10 to 15 such pages" on the photo-sharing service and found the two babies with the three men who were arrested, he said. The babies were handed over to social services. ...

The International Monetary Fund, IMF and World Bank Group on Wednesday announced additional measures to curtail the impact of the coronavirus on the world’s economy and health. “We know the disease is spreading quickly with over one-third of our membership affected directly. This is no longer a regional issue. It is a global problem calling for a global response,” Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director, IMF said.
