CRIME: Two detained over Nigerian High Commission demolition.

The two were arrested on Monday, June 22, according to a press release from the CID. “The Criminal Investigations Department in the course of investigation on Monday 22nd June 2020, arrested two persons involved in the demolition of a building on the premises of the Nigerian High Commission in Accra.” The two are facing charges of conspiracy to Commit Crime to wit; Unlawful Entry and Causing Unlawful Damage. They are set to be arraigned but the statement did not specify a date. The CID further urged the general public to remain calm and continue to assist the Police with timely and factual information. The Somali head of state on Wednesday appointed new military commanders as part of the country's ongoing efforts to "improve security and reform the armed forces." ''The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo appointed Brigadier Gen. Abdulhamid Mohamed Dirir as the new chief commander for the Somali navy force and Brigade Gen. Abas Ali Amin as the new commander for the the infantry troops for Somali National Army,'' the state-run Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported. The change is part of the government's efforts to reform the military, and strengthen the country's entire security apparatus, according to SONNA. In a statement, the government of Gambia has denied widely circulated rumours of plans to soften homosexuality laws in exchange for aid funds. “This is false political propaganda orchestrated to score cheap political points,” said government spokesman Ebrima Sankareh. He said the government continues to be guided by “the norms of its people” and “has no plans to either decriminalise or even entertain a review of laws on homosexuality”. NAIROBI — Kenya’s Health Minister Dr Rashid Aman has confirmed that 143 more individuals had tested positive for COVID-19 after 2,959 samples were tested within the last 24 hours. Aman stated that the total number of COVID-19 individuals in the country stood at 1888. All the 143 cases are Kenyans, with the youngest patient being one month and the oldest being 88 years old Aman further stated that 26 individuals from hospitals around the county had been discharged, bringing the total number of those who had recovered to 464. At the same time, the ministry recorded the loss of a 59-year-old, bringing the total number of those who had succumbed to 63. Busia Municipality MP, Mr Godfrey Macho has been arrested on allegations of defying directives on the prevention of coronavirus pandemic and inciting violence. Mr Godfrey Macho was allegedly found on Saturday mobilising a section of traders to go and open their shops and stalls in Busia market contrary to the directives issued by the district taskforce on coronavirus and president Museveni. All city taxis will be assigned specific routes as they resume their operations on June 4, 2020, the Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs, Ms Betty Amongi has said. The minister told journalists at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala on Thursday that they have designed routes for each taxi operating within the Kampala metropolitan area. This means that before the taxis return to the city, all operators will be expected to report to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Offices to be assigned parks and stages. Ms Amongi says that after registration and assignment of routes, the drivers will pick their route charts from the Ministry of Works. Buganda Road Magistrates Court has dismissed a case in which Andrew Mukasa commonly known as Bajjo was accused of inciting violence and annoying the President. Trial magistrate Stella Maris Amabilisi ruled on Wednesday that prosecution had failed to present a witness. Amabilis said she could not keep adjourning the case. The case has been in court for seven months. The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) was not sure of when to bring witnesses.
