Barely a week after signing a contract extension at Express FC, Wasswa Bbosa has started recruiting players for the 2020/21 season. Bbosa who signed a three year deal last week is set to sign as many former players. The players in question are all from relegated Tooro United FC, a side Bbosa coached at the start of the just ended Uganda Premier League. Forwards Godfrey Lwesibawa plus Charles Musiige and midfielder John Byamukama will all soon be Express FC players. This is a second home coming for Lwesibawa who was at Wankulukuku before joining rivals SC Villa in 2015. The winger has also previously featured for Vipers SC and is a key figure in the Uganda Beach Soccer national team. The Premier League season is set to restart on 17 June with Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal, the BBC has learned. A full round of fixtures would then be played on the weekend of 19-21 June. There are 92 matches still to play, and the first to take place will be those the four teams involved have in hand. Clubs discussed the resumption plan - which is subject to government approval - at a meeting on Thursday and it is understood all agreed in principle. Players will be able to "train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising unnecessary close contact," a statement said. Discussions continue on plans to resume the season when "conditions allow", it added. Premier League players and staff will continue to be tested twice a week for coronavirus. On Monday, May 25, Jimmy Kirunda collapsed dead while jogging around Bwaise, Kampala. Kirunda is one of Uganda’s most iconic football figures having played at five AFCON finals. The former KCCA FC, SC Villa and Express FC player captained the Uganda Cranes at three AFCON finals, including the historic 78 showpiece game against Ghana. Vipers SC have been declared the 2019/20 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season. This was confirmed by the Federation of Uganda Football Association president, Moses Magogo, on Wednesday, May 20 during a special press conference held at FUFA House in Mengo. Magogo also noted that Maroons FC, Proline FC and Tooro United FC had been relegated to the FUFA Big League. Before the league was halted in March, Vipers were leading the UPL standings with 54 points from 25 games. The Venoms were four points ahead of second-placed KCCA FC. It was announced by Magogo that the Executive had applied the 75% sporting rule so as to award Vipers SC the title. Consequently, Vipers SC will represent Uganda in the CAF Champions League while KCCA FC enters next season’s CAF Confederations Cup.

Organsing the Africa Cup of Nations every four years, as FIFA proposed “can be a good thing,” according to former Ivorian international and Chelsea forward Didier Drogba.
