Spice Girls fans outraged as Victoria Beckham launches £80 T-shirts for Pride charity

The singer-turned-designer releases a new design each year and after facing criticism in 2020, she’s announced that 100% of the proceeds will go to charity this time around.

Victoria Beckham has been slammed by Spice Girls fans after launching a Pride T-shirt with a massive price tag of £80.

The 47 year old, who recently shared an incredible Spice Girls throwback snap, took to her Instagram to share the new design with her 28.9 million followers, posting a clip of herself with her former bandmates all dressed in the printed T-shirts.

The top, modelled by Victoria, Geri Halliwell, 48, Mel C, 47, Mel B, 46, and 45 year old Emma Button, features rainbow-coloured words that read: “proud and wannabe your lover,” – referencing their hit 1996 debut single.

In the caption, she told followers she has partnered with the Albert Kennedy Trust, which supports homeless LGBTQ+ young people find safe homes. Victoria said: “PROUD AND WANNABE YOUR LOVER [rainbow flag emoji] Happy #PrideMonth from me and the @spicegirls!

“I’m so excited to share this year’s Pride T-shirt with you! For the third year in a row we’ve partnered with the wonderful @aktcharity, this year with a special Wannabe T-shirt. 100% of the proceeds go to akt, to continue funding the amazing work they do to combat LGBQT+ youth homelessness in the UK.

“Pride to me is a celebration of being completely yourself and this year’s T-shirt is a reminder of that. The Spice Girls really championed accepting yourself and others, being kind, having fun and just living your best life! The LGBTQ+ community is so close to my heart and I’m so proud to be supporting Pride 2021 with the girls and akt again this year. x VB #pride2021”.

Fashion mogul Victoria’s cotton shirt comes in five different sizes, with the XL equating to a size 14 to 16.

She’s also selling a limited-edition Wannabe-themed black pouch for a whopping £95.

Upon hearing the news, fans rushed to Twitter to voice their opinions on the items, as one person wrote: “Because everything @victoriabeckham touches is very expensive! Good cause though, but not at all affordable for most people who have an affinity with that cause.”

Another wrote: “Really wanted the Victoria Beckham Pride Shirt, but it’s £85…”as a third chimed: “In @victoriabeckham Earth globe americas money does really grow on [three tree emojis] and I don’t even have a garden as yet to grow them [rolling on the floor laughing emoji] #VictoriaBeckham #PoshSpice #SpiceGirl”.

While a fourth added: “these wordart t-shirts cost EIGHTY BRITISH POUNDS there is not a fandom in the world that suffers like we do”.

Victoria also teamed up with the charity last year and released a T-shirt featuring the words “Listen Without Prejudice” written in a rainbow font, in reference to George Michael’s iconic 1990 album of the same name.

However, only 25 per cent of the proceeds of the £95 shirt went to AKT charity, sparking fury across social media.One person wrote at the time: “The Spice Girls and George Michael are personal heroes of mine but this is disappointing. Why is it just “25% of sales” going to an LGBTQ charity? No business should be making a profit from a Pride tie-in.”

Another agreed: “Who the tuck will pay 95 quid for a cheap white shirt? Not me. And I buy a lot of charity merch.”

A third accused Victoria of “helping herself and failing fashion label at the same time. The charity should be receiving a much larger cut at £95 a pop.”
