  Fears of famine in S. Sudan ‘Quarter of  population face hunger’   A looming food crisis threatens massive hunger in South Sudan. 9.3 million People, nearly a quarter of the population in the East Central Africa Nation, are expected to be in need of humanitarian assistance in 2020, up from 8.5 million according to United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Agency, OCHA.   The UN reports that in worst hit Kassala state in the east of the country, more than 400,000 people are at risk of a catastrophe; food insecurity is dire, yet many cannot afford to buy medicines required for treatment of ill health, as result of hunger.   The UN says the economic crisis has exacerbated the desperate situation;   driving  up food prices in the African country, hence, surging the number of people in need of aid   The UN’s humanitarian chief, Mark Lowcock on a visit to Kassala in November called on an international community to provide more aid to the already war ravaged nation.   According to 2019 report by World Food production, Conflict, displacement and food security are three of the most pressing problems of South Sudan, often sparking international humanitarian aid effort. The report earmarked Natural and partly man-made disasters such as; drought, land degradation, floods as major catalysts to food insecurity.
