Consumer prices in Portugal fell 0.2 percent year-on-year in December of 2020, the same as in November, and in line with preliminary estimates. It is the 4th consecutive month of falling consumer prices, as cost fell more for recreation and culture (-2.1 percent vs -1.3 percent) and clothing and footwear (-4.4 percent vs -3.7 percent) and continued to decline for transportation (-2.5 percent vs -3.2 percent). Also, food inflation slowed (1.5 percent vs 2.1 percent). On the other hand, prices increased faster for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.4 percent vs 0.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged down 0.1 percent, also in line with preliminary figures. Considering full 2020, consumer prices were flat, compared to a 0.3 percent rise in 2019.
