ganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has launched the Jinja Data Centre branch, an
NITA came into force in 2012/3 when the Cabinet approved the national strategy to rationalise the use of ICT services within government in order to reduce duplication and wasteful expenditures on ICT software and infrastructure.
Speaking to the staff of NITA-U at the inauguration ceremony in Jinja Municipality, President Museveni congratulated them over acquiring a modern facility that he referred to as a centralised system that coordinates the entire mechanism.
“I congratulate you. Good luck in national service delivery,” he said.
The President was conducted on a guided inspection tour of the facility by the Director, Maj. Gen. Apollo Gowa, who is also Commissioner, Citizen and Passport Control, NITA-U Executive Director, James Saaka and Director of e-Government Services, Peter Kahigi.
The President also commissioned the reconstructed roads in Jinja Municipality that cover a total distance of 3 kms. The project cost the Government of Uganda about Shs.12 billion.
He told the gathering at the ceremony at the Municipality’s Main Street that NRM’s methods of work is prioritizing development projects.
“Here in Busoga Sub-Region, the government started with building rural roads such as Kaliro and Kamuli roads and the highway to Kenya border as urban centres survive in many aspects on rural setting of hardworking communities mainly on food supplies. The work on road infrastructure in municipalities, marks the beginning of commitment to building more roads around the country,” he said.
He urged the people in Jinja District to utilize profitably the roads in place to engage in production ventures.
Parliamentary Speaker, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga said that eastern Region’s districts of Greater Soroti, Mbale and Jinja have benefitted immensely in roads infrastructure. Jinja Municipal Mayor, Batambuze Majidu expressed the resident’s gratitude to Government for the reconstructed roads in Jinja.
