President Museveni orders army guards for MPs

In the wake of recent assassinations, Uganda’s President Museveni has directed the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to get military guards for Members of Parliament.

Agreed in a close meeting between the President and the legislators, the Members of Parliament alarmed the President that they have been receiving death threats via social media platform and mobile phones.

In response, the President directed the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen David Muhoozi, to work with the Commandant of the Parliamentary Police, Superintendent of Police Anabella Nyamahoro to handle the process of enhancing MPs’ security. While the Finance ministry will be co-opted to handle the cost implications of this security arrangement.
