Moses Kibalama,the former head of the National Unity Platform yesterday told Court in Uganda’s Capital, Kampala that he held a meeting with the Chief Of Defence Forces Gen.David Muhoozi to discuss the out the issues surrounding the new leaders of the Party under Robert Kyagulayi locally known by his Music stage name is Bobi Wine.
Kibalama said following consultations, he hired the services of another lawyer from Barungi, Baingana and Company Advocates and made a second statement.
Court heard that Kibalama was once a senior police officer, who served in Idi Amin and Milton Obote’s regime.
Kibalama also admitted to falsifying minutes of the alleged extra ordinary delegates’ conference held at Kakiri on July 14, 2020, in which Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and others were purportedly elected as new office bearers.
“The meeting did not take place. We had been given timelines of changing the party name by the Electoral Commission that is why we falsified returns and handed it over to the public body,” he states.Kibalama was last week summoned by Court for Cross examination,made the confession while appearing before the Court on Friday morning.
Kibalama revealed to Court that from the day he was arrested from his home, he was taken to meet with the Army Commander.
Speaking during the function to unveil the National Unity Platform which had metamorphosed from the National Unity Reconciliation and Development Party-NURP, Kibalama said Kyagulanyi was the only person with values similar to what the party was subscribing too and that he was the right man to take the party forward.
However, a few weeks later, the two walked on parallel paths as Kibalama accused Kyagulanyi of not fulfilling his promises that allegedly included $5 million as he took over the party.
The claims were contained in a video that went viral on social media platforms.
Kibalama later changed his affidavit in a case where he had been sued together with other NUP officials for changing the party name and leadership illegally without informing some party members.
During the Court Session, NUP lawyers led by Lubega Segona asked Court to farward Mr Kibalama to the Director Of Public Prosecutions for Prosecution for lying to a Public institution Electoral Commisssion.
Court Presided over by Justice Musa Sekaana adjournded the matter to October 16th and asked the defendants to file their submissions by October,16th.
