The absence of four-time champion Geoffrey Kamworor proved detrimental as Kenya relinquished the World Half Marathon men’s title as Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo clinched the crown in a new Championship Record time of 58:49.
Kenya’s Kibiwott Kandie who is the world leader and is unbeaten in four races this year finished second in a time of 58:54 after unsuccessfully trying to keep up with the Ugandan’s pace.
The Ugandan World Cross Country silver medalist proved to have the final bit of gas in the tank, outsprinting Kandie in the final kilometre and going it all alone to take the title to Uganda.
