The founding leader of the National Unity Reconciliation and Development Party-(NURP) which later metamorphosed into the National Unity Platform,Moses Kibalama Nkonge, has said Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has betrayed him as soon as he handed the party to him.

Appearing on NBS TV Morning Breeze show today, Kibalama expressed his disappointment towards the current leadership of NUP noting that he has been let down by the people he trusted.

He claimed that NUP leadership is not following the constitution of the party and the terms and conditions of the agreement.

“Within a week, I found myself sidelined in NUP and wondered: ‘Is this what I negotiated for?’ Kyagulanyi and I are not friends,”he said.

Asked whether he regrets handing the party to Bobi Wine, Kibalama said anyone can make political mistakes which are regrettable.

“When you head a political party, you have an urge to get more members. You allow in as many as possible. I intended to have people come in and energise the party. I was very hopeful. Weeks later, I come to understand that I had teamed up with a gang,”he said.

Kibalama however said he would prefer Bobi Wine to be the president of Uganda if he was still on good terms with him which isn’t the case at the moment.

“In case Bobi(Wine) invites me back, I will support him. Right now, I am a free man. I can support anybody,”he said.

Kibalama said one of the biggest challenges in the leadership of the party is that the party is being run like a movement which shouldn’t be the case.

Commenting on his security, he said the threat around him is real because he can’t walk freely in town.

” I am not in detention.I am at home. I just requested security officials to give me some security because there was some insecurity.People jumped over my fence. They were holding two guns. That was a threat that I aired out,”he said.

On the issue of meeting with the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi, he said the failure to get any assistance from NUP following threats he was facing forced him to touch base with Muhoozi
