US First daughter and Senior advisor Ivanka Trump is in Ethiopia on an official visit aimed at promoting women’s opportunities in the Business world and also discuss the opportunities and challenges women entrepreneurs face in Ethiopia.
Ms. Trump will among other official duties discuss U.S led initiatives to promote opportunities for women’s inclusion and learn about ongoing efforts in meetings with Ethiopian government officials and the African Union.
She met with businesswomen in the coffee industry at Dumerso Coffee in Addis Ababa and said that her country will support more opportunities for women to start and grow their businesses in Ethiopia.
Ms. Trump also announced a new W-GDP award of a $260K loan provided by Enat Bank to help Azalech Tesfaye Owner of Azalech Coffee Roasting, Grinding and Packaging to expand her business.
“Fundamentally we believe that investing in women is a smart development policy and its smart business. It is also in our security interests because women when they are empowered, they foster peace and stability and we have seen this play out time and time again,” noted Trump.
Further, Ms. Trump visited a female owned textile company owned Mrs. Sara Abera who started her company sixteen years ago with just 10 employees but has expanded to over 500 workers. He company targets both local and international markets.
