French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has said that opposition candidate Felix Tshisekedi’s victory did not conform to the results seen on the ground and called for clear clarification of the results.
He said: “We must have clarity on these results, which are the opposite of what we expected,”
He added: “The Catholic Church of Congo did its tally and announced completely different results,”
There has been widespread speculation in recent days that the result was rigged to give former oil executive Martin Faulu victory. However, electoral officials say the election was credible.
