LONDON, United Kingdom
Female genital mutilation (FGM) is increasingly being performed on babies and infants in the UK, says an expert.
According to an FGM expert and barrister Dr Charlotte Proudman, she said it was “almost impossible to detect” as the girls were not in school or old enough to report it.
Last week, a Uganda woman and mother of a three-year-old girl was found guilty at the Old Bailey on Friday of mutilating her daughter. Her partner was acquitted.
In one report, in Yorkshire, a victim was just one month old.
