Former Scotland First Minister Alex Salmond has been arrested by police.

Police confirmed that he had been charged and said a report would be sent to prosecutors.

Details of his charges are not yet known.

News coming in indicate that Police had been investigating him following a Scottish government inquiry into complaints of sexual harassment, which he denies.

He was first minister from 2007 to 2014, and its likely that he could appear in court later on Thursday.
