Ethiopians mourn slain army chief

NORTHERN AMHARA, Ethiopia

The government of Ethiopia is holding a memorial service in the capital, Addis Ababa, for the slain army chief of staff who was shot dead alongside another general on Saturday as part of what the authorities called a coup attempt in the northern state of Amhara. They were shot by the army chief bodyguard.

The slain were Army chief Gen Seare Mekonnen and Gen Gezai Abera who will be laid to rest in the state of Tigray later this week .
