NAIROBI — Kenya’s Health Minister Dr Rashid Aman has confirmed that 143 more individuals had tested positive for COVID-19 after 2,959 samples were tested within the last 24 hours.

Aman stated that the total number of COVID-19 individuals in the country stood at 1888.

All the 143 cases are Kenyans, with the youngest patient being one month and the oldest being 88 years old

Aman further stated that 26 individuals from hospitals around the county had been discharged, bringing the total number of those who had recovered to 464.

At the same time, the ministry recorded the loss of a 59-year-old, bringing the total number of those who had succumbed to 63.

The Health CAS further insisted that Kenyans should continue to follow measures that have been set by the government including; social distancing, wearing of marks, washing of hands regularly and reducing cases of large gatherings.

Aman urged Kenyan leaders to lead by example in following government directives to achieve the intended objective of combating the spread of the disease.

“It is disturbing to observe the casual manner in which some of us in leadership practice the containment measures. As leaders, it is of crucial importance that we walk the talk.

“It does not help if we continue to appeal to our people to wear masks in public places yet some of us do not do the same,” Aman stated.
