Congolese President pardons 700 political prisoners

KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo

Seven hundred political prisoners have been pardoned by the newly elected President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, local media reports.

According to reports, the pardoned prisoners were imprisoned during the rule of the former President Joseph Kabila mostly youth, activists, and opposition who were against his rule.

Kabila had refused to release them despite s deal signed by the opposition in year 2015.

Tshisekedi promised to reconcile the nation torn apart by conflicts, poverty and disease.
