STATEMENT BY HIS EXCELLENCY Dr Hage G. Geingob, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF NAMIBIA, AT THE BURIAL SERVICE OF THE LATE COL. (RTD) FILLIPUS AMUTENYA NANDENGA.EENHANA SHRINE OHANGWENA REGIONAPRIL 24, 2021 Fellow mourners,Yesterday, we gathered at Ontana Village to celebrate the life of Colonel (Rtd) Filipus Amutenya Nandenga. Today, we are gathered here at the Eenhana Shrine, a fitting final resting place for this unsung hero, to bid farewell, as we hand this Son of the Soil back into the hands of our Creator.A famous freedom fighter once said, “If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live”. In his life, Comrade Nandenga found something that was worth dying for and that is why today, as we accompany him one last time and say our goodbyes, we salute this gallant son of the soil for having lived a life worthy of a hero.Colonel Nandenga will remain an embodiment of our struggle for the independence of Namibia and our ultimate victory over the tyrannical forces of theApartheid Regime. He is an example of unwavering commitment, formidable bravery and unyielding patriotism. In the years he served the Peoples Liberation Army of Namibia and later the Namibia Defence Force, Commander Zulu concentrated on the task of defending his country and he did so, exceedingly well. He was a loving husband, father, uncle, brother and a man of character and substance, who will not only be missed by his family but by his friends and comrades as well.It has been said that a nation reveals its character by those it honours. As a nation birthed from struggle, we shall always give the greatest honour to those who have dedicated their lives to the emancipation of their compatriots. This defines the character of the people of Namibia. As we bid farewell to this valiant fighter, let us be inspired by his story of bravery and sacrifice so that we may adopt the same zeal and passion in our respective fields and professions, thereby safeguarding the principles of freedom, justice and equality which Comrade Nandenga fought for.To the widow Meme Maria Valombweleni Nandenga and the children, please know how much we appreciated your dear husband. We will never forget his courage, love of country, and service. He has run a flawless race. Now he can receive his crown of victory. As stated in the book of Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”. We say this prayer for the Nandenga familyduring this time of sorrow and mourning. Even at this difficult hour, May God fills you with joy and peace so that in the days, months and years ahead, you may overflow with hope.Farewell, dear son of Namibia. May God grant your soul eternal rest and peace.
