The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party members of parliament have reportedly benefited from yet another cash bonanza from President Yoweri Museveni. Each of the 317 NRM MPs who previously supported the lifting of the age limit is set to receive Shs 40m - just days after the clerk to parliament Jane Kibirige ordered the legislators to return Shs 20 million parliament allocated to each of the 438 MPs for COVID-19 activities. The 35 year old Evelyn Namulondo who was shot two days back in Jinja town has died at the hospital. Evelyn was severely injured by the bullets which passed through her abdomen and dislocated her intestines. Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa is under fire for authorising three people to fly into the country from abroad in contravention to the presidential directive that ordered closure of all airports and borders into the country. In a May 13, 2020 letter, Kutesa wrote to the Manager of Ethiopian Airlines asking him to charter three Ugandans from USA, via Addis Ababa to Entebbe Airport. Kampala ----- National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has said paying out at least 20 per cent of members’ savings as it has been proposed by a section of the public will hurt the economy yet it seeks to benefit just a few Ugandans.Speaking in an interview yesterday, Mr Richard Byarugaba, the NSSF managing director, said the proposal has more negatives than positives and would have far reaching implications on the larger economy. KAMPALA —Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda have risen to 160 after 21 new cases, all truck drivers tested positive for the virus on Thursday. The new cases include Ugandan truck drivers, Kenyans, Tanzanians and South Sudanese who arrived via Mutukula, Busia and Elegu borders Their samples were among the 1,593 samples that were tested on Thursday May 14 at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, Entebbe. “All 303 community samples have tested negative for COVID-19,” the statement by Ministry of Health said adding that a total samples tested today stand at 1,896. The drivers who tested positive have been coming from neighbouring countries including Kenyan, Tanzania, South Sudan among others. Parliament of Uganda: Former employees of Kampala City Council (KCC), which was transformed into Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), who were retrenched almost 10 years ago, will receive their terminal benefits in July this year. The State Minister for Finance (Planning), Hon. The new cases are from truck drivers comprising of 7 Ugandans who arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula, 5 Kenyans who arrived from South Sudan via the Elegu border and an Eritrean who arrived from Kenya via Malaba. According to the ministry of Health, a total of 2,104 samples were tested on Wednesday and all the 363 community samples tested negative. Of Uganda’s 136 cases, over 70 are from truck drivers and Uganda has not registered any community cases in the last two week. On Wednesday, 5 Tanzanian drivers who had been admitted at Arua regional referral hospital were discharged after recovering from the virus. High Court Judge Henrietta Wolayo has awarded 50 million shillings as compensation to Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, over his brutal arrest by Police at his home at Wakaliga back in 2017. The judge made a finding that Police’s act of arresting and detaining Lukwago,who was heading to his office on 21st September 2017 was unlawful and it was a violation of his personal liberty provided for under the constitution. The Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament, Cecilia Atim Ogwal collapsed in parliament yesterday afternoon. The veteran legislator reportedly started feeling nauseated at around 2:00 pm before she collapsed. The parliamentary medical team picked her up from the pigeonhole area and took her to the waiting room where they administered first aid, according to eyewitnesses.  She was later rushed with an ambulance to her home for rest.
