STATE HOUSE, ENTEBBE: The Executive Director of UNAIDs, Winnie Byanyima, has thanked President Museveni for his immense contribution in the HIV/Aids fight. At a meeting at State House Entebbe today (Tuesday), Byanyima saluted and congratulated the President for his efforts in fighting HIV /AIDS and driving the awareness campaign in the country. Byanyima, giving an overview of the state of affairs in the HIV/Aids fight, told the President that efforts should be placed on messages of prevention if the war against the pandemic is to won. "Prevention has not had much attention. It needs to be boosted. For example there are medicines that can be taken when at high risk of infection. Not enough people know about this," she said. Uganda to host 2024 Commonwealth speakers conference

Uganda has been appointed to host the Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in 2024. The decision was made on Monday at the ongoing CSPOC in Ottawa, Canada. Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, Ugandan MPs and parliamentary officials were also in attendance. At the Monday forum, issues discussed included forum CSPOC meetings; format of the said gatherings; Standing Committee Rules and venues for future conferences. It was agreed that the 2021 CSPOC would be held in Guernsey. The latter is an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy. In 2022, Australia will be the host. The High court in Kampala has appointed Ruth Sebatindira, the former president of the Uganda Law Society as the new administrator of Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL). Sebatindira will replace Nelson Bemanya whose contract expired in November 2019.  The decision follows an application filed on December 17, 2019, by the Uganda Contribution Employees Contributory Pension Scheme (UCECPS) through their lawyers led by Johnson Kwesigabo.
