Taipei has already begun the limited reopening of its famous night markets, normally a top draw for tourists. TAIPEI - Taiwan's Cabinet said on Monday (July 5) that with Covid-19 cases abating, there is room to ease restrictions as the island begins emerging from the worst of its pandemic. It added that ministries and officials should make preparations for doing so. Taiwan enacted curbs on gatherings, including closing entertainment venues and limiting restaurants to take-out service, in May amid a spike in domestic cases after months of no or few community transmissions. But with the outbreak stabilising, the Cabinet suggested easing those rules. China Blasts Japan After Official Sounds Beijing Threat ‘Wake Up’ Call

Beijing said it filed a diplomatic complaint with Tokyo after its deputy defense minister said Japan and the U.S. needed to "wake up" to the security threat posed by China and "protect Taiwan as a democratic country." Japan's State Minister of Defense Yasuhide Nakayama made the comments at a Hudson Institute event on Monday, in which he sounded the alarm about Chinese and Russian military collaboration, and the resultant threat to the Indo-Pacific region.
