Turkey and Russia, as well as Russian-backed Syrian regime forces, appear to have increased attacks in Syria in recent days. Turkey is hammering Kurdish positions near Ain Issa with the first airstrikes in months, according to reports. Russia or the Syrian regime it supports is hammering Syrians in areas Turkey occupies in northern Syria. It appears the end goal is mostly to punish Syrians, but not achieve much else since Turkey, Russia and Iran all work together in Syria. Turkey has targeted the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces.
Russian jets pounded several targets in northern Syria near the Turkish border on Sunday, including a gas facility. The Syrian army also attacked a hospital in the area, killing seven civilians, among them a child, the news wire said, citing witnesses and rebel sources.
Syria’s government launched a Russian backed offensive to recapture Idlib in April 2019. Turkey has deployed troops and backed opposition forces to try to halt the advance, which has displaced around 1 million people.
Dozens of vehicles carrying goods in a trailer park near Bab al Hawa, a border crossing with Turkey, were on fire following the attack on the gas facility.
Hezbollah delegation concluded on Tuesday a three-day visit to Russia, holding meetings with the Duma members as well as the National Security Council officials.
The delegation, led by Head of the ‘Loyalty to Resistance’ parliamentary bloc, also visited the picture gallery of the Defense Ministry which shows the Russian military achievements.
Head of Hezbollah Foreign Relations Department, Ammar Moussawi, hailed the Russian authorities’ hospitality, highlighting the strategic cooperation with Moscow to maintain stability in Lebanon and repel any terrorist counterattack in Syria.
Hezbollah delegation had arrived in Moscow on Sunday and met with the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, on Monday.
