According to the Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, the Barcelona captain has broken off contract talks after finally running out of patience with the club because of the constant rumours and allegations that he is one of the prime reasons for unrest around the Nou Camp. Messi is disillusioned with any number of things emanating from his life at Barcelona at the moment. He is fed up of being accused of running the club, fed up of people saying he hires and fires the coaches, fed up of claims he chooses who should be signed and who should play and fed up with the general direction of the club and the huge mistakes they have made in the transfer market. Enough is enough and now he has, according to the the radio station's programme El Larguero, told the club he will be leaving at the e...

SOCCER: Liverpool have taken Man City’s Premier League title, now they want their records – Alan Shearer

Soccer, Sports
There won't be any fans inside Etihad Stadium on Thursday, but I am still expecting it to be a very lively night. Manchester City will show Liverpool great respect with a guard of honour before the game, but it will hurt Pep Guardiola and his players to have to do it, and they will want to prove a point on the pitch afterwards. The level Liverpool are at might depend on how much partying they have done since becoming Premier League champions last week. They deserved those celebrations but they have had a few days to get them out of the way, and my guess is they will want to be at their very best again when they play City. This is a big game even without any silverware riding on it. Liverpool have already taken City's title, and now they want their records too - most points, bigge...

The DFB board has decided to make changes to the upcoming transfer window for licensed and contracted players. The background to the changes is the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on football matches. "Because of the coronavirus crisis and the resulting shifts in seasons, national and international adjustments to the transfer windows are necessary, so that the previous period [1 July to 31 August 2020] had to be updated. We have now made this adjustment together with the DFL and in coordination with FIFA," said Peter Frymuth, DFB Vice President for Match Operations and Football Development. The result of the joint vote, also in conjunction with the DFL Presidium, is a split and extended transfer period. Accordingly, the transfer window will be open on 1 July 2020 for a single day (c...

Karim Benzema delivered a moment of magic as Real Madrid took a two-point lead over Barcelona at the top of La Liga by beating bottom club Espanyol. Benzema's volley against Valencia could be goal of the season and he might now have a claim to best assist too after his brilliant back heel teed up Casemiro to finish for a crucial 1-0 win. Real's advantage in the table, coming after Barca's draw at Celta Vigo on Saturday, is their biggest since February and puts them within sight of their second league title in eight years. "It's a very important win," said Benzema. "I can't say we don't look at Barcelona, of course we do. But we're focused on our own league. There are not many games left and every game now is a final." By the time Real play at home to Getafe on Thursday they mi...

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 23rd goal of the season as Juventus moved seven points clear at the top of Serie A with victory over 10-man Lecce. The visitors had Fabio Lucioni sent off for a foul in the first half before Paulo Dybala struck from outside the box just after the break.
