The infiltration of the Ugandan opposition and erosion of its power by President Museveni over the years has taken place piecemeal. It has been slow but very bold – felling one high-profile official after another. On May 24, a beaming President Museveni, probably satisfied with his handiwork, told members of Parliament, that he had softened the opposition’s resistance to him. He said he is on good talking terms with three opposition parties; the Democratic Party (DP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC). The president’s working relationship with DP and UPC did not surprise many because over the years now, the two oldest parties in the country have been known to cozy up to the chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement. For UPC in part...

• Monday, 8 March 2021 • Dear Fellow South African, Today is International Women’s Day. For more than a century, this day has been celebrated across the world as part of the struggle to realise women’s rights in the social, political, legal, reproductive, health and other spheres. The Women’s Charter, which was drawn up in 1994, notes that at the heart of women’s marginalisation in South Africa are the attitudes and practices that “confine women to the domestic arena, and reserve for men the arena where political power and authority reside”. There can be no meaningful progress for women if our society continues to relegate women to ‘traditional’ professions, occupations or roles, while it is mainly men who sit on decision-making structures. Fittingly, the theme of t...

Kyagulanyi  claims  that  since his participation as a candidate in the recently concluded presidential election where NRM’s Tibahaburwa was declared winner , he has been a target by security and other government agencies thus forcing him to start  wearing  bullet ...

Bobi wine- since we petitioned the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice has met Kaguta Museveni about 3 times. Imagine this is an arbitrator meeting a respondent in a case. In one of the meetings, the Chief Justice presented a budget to Museveni. Bobi wine cites precedent of Amama Mbabazi election petition where the court accepted an amendment. "It shocked us and the entire world that the Supreme Court rejected our application to file an amendment to the petition" Bobi wine - We are convinced that the Supreme Court has a predetermined mind to reject our petition on grounds that we didn't have enough evidence. But this is the same court wc has refused to take our evidence. Part of the evidence is a video from Kalundi Serumaga Bobi wine - the evidence also had DR forms from Kiruhura wh...
