Friday 19th March 2021- Kampala, Uganda: MTN Uganda in partnership with NITA-Uganda
have today unveiled a new app that will be used for geo-fencing and tracking COVID 19 patients
that are under home based care.
The new app named E-pass (Electronic pass) is intended to help the Ministry of Health truck
and geo-fence the movement of COVID 19 patients under home based care thus reducing the
number of non-critical patients that get admitted in hospitals.
At the height of the pandemic, many people would be rushed to health centers, even those that
were not in critical conditions, a situation that overwhelmed health centers and also stretched
the limited resources in hospitals.

Uganda's former executive director of the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U), James Saka is no more!
The strong man passed on on Wednesday, December 9 at Kampala hospitala.
His death has been confirmed by NITA-U in a statement on Twitter.
“It is with profound shock and sadness that we announce that James Saaka, our former ED, has passed away.
We extend our most heartfelt condolences and sympathy to James’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this most difficult time.
Rest In Power James”, the announcement reads.
