Draft rules aimed at reining in the power of Facebook Inc(FB.O), Alphabet Inc unit Google (GOOGL.O), Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) and Apple Inc(AAPL.O) should only target these U.S. tech giants, a leading EU lawmaker said, signalling a tougher stand than EU antitrust regulators. Proposed by European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager last year, the Digital Markets Act (DMA) could force U.S. tech giants to change their lucrative business models and ensure a level playing field for smaller rivals. The DMA defines online gatekeepers as companies with more than 6.5 billion euros ($8 billion) in annual European turnover in the last three years or 65 billion euros in market value in the last financial year, and which provide a core platform service in at least three EU countries. ...

Brandenburg Gate, Berlin, Germany - Panorama Christian Democrats risk losing centrist votes in September’s Bundestag election if they move further right “The future’s in the air, can feel it everywhere, blowing with the wind of change,” the west German rock band Scorpions roared in 1991, clad in tight black leather from head to toe. Their ballad was a global hit the year after German unification, coming just in time for the demise of the Soviet Union. It came to epitomise the end of the cold war, and the hope that democratic revolutions would ripple around the world. Three decades later, German politicians have learnt to be jumpy about winds of change, especially when they blow from the five Länder that once made up communist East Germany. So the fact that the small state of Saxo...

Champions League Final: Kai Havertz & N’Golo Kante key for Chelsea against Man City

European Council, EUROPEAN UNION, FIFA, Football, GAMES, Sports, UEFA
Every Manchester City fan I spoke to outside the ground in Porto after their defeat in the Champions League final asked me the same thing - 'why didn't he play Fernandinho?' But I can see why City boss Pep Guardiola left his captain out, and I can understand why Rodri didn't start either. Pep has thought 'I don't need a holding midfielder in the centre' because Chelsea play with two men on the outside in Mason Mount and Kai Havertz behind Timo Werner. The heat maps of Mason Mount (left) and Kai Havertz (right) against City show how they mostly touched the ball out wide Pep thought by going with Ilkay Gundogan in there instead, City could be more creative - but he must have known it would leave them much more open than usual. Chelsea were clever, of course. Although they kep...
