Kampala,Uganda: East African Community Observer teams from the East African Community Election Observer Mission (EAC-EOM) to the January 2021 Uganda General Election were formally flagged off in Kampala this morning.  Flagging off the observers, EAC-EOM Head of Mission H.E. Mzee Kirunda has been battling #Covid-19 at Mulago National Referral Hospital for over a month. The 84-year old becomes the highest-ranking official to succumb to the virus. Uganda's  Second Deputy Prime Minister, the late  Alhaji Kirunda Kivejinja Faruk Kirunda, the deceased's son confirmed the news noting that Kirunda had passed on in Mulago hospital. "It's true he is dead. He passed away at Mulago National referral Hospital," Kivejinja's son said. Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda also announced Kivejinja's death.
