The Dane, 34, saved the spot kick from the England skipper but could do nothing about the rebound as Kane followed the ball in to slot home the extra time winner which took Gareth Southgate’s side to Sunday’s final. But images emerged after the match of a green laser flickering on the face of Schmeichel just prior to the penalty. And although Schmeichel was not impaired for the spot-kick, he has now confirmed it was something he made the officials aware of prior to the i...

What You Should Know Ahead of England-Denmark Semifinal at Wembley

Denmark, ENGLAND, EURO 2020, FIFA, Football, Sports, UEFA
Italy's opponent in the final of the Euro 2020 tournament will be named on Wednesday, following the semifinal match between England and Denmark at Wembley Stadium. While England fans can be seen chanting "Football's coming home" in the streets of the UK ahead of the crucial game, supporters of the Denmark team have been equally enthusiastic about their progress in the tournament. A day before the match, Denmark's goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was quizzed by journalists on "stopping" football from coming home. In response, Schmeichel ironically questioned whether football had ever come home. For both teams, it is a chance to make football history and honour their fans at home. While England is eager to go through to the final and try winning its first UEFA European Champ...

‘Has it ever been home?’ – Kasper Schmeichel’s response when asked about stopping England

Denmark, ENGLAND, EURO 2020, Football, Sports
Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel playfully took aim at England ahead of Wednesday’s Euro 2020 semi-final showdown by questioning whether football had ever come home. Schmeichel is not concerning himself with that clamour for success and instead aimed a cheeky dig at England. “Has it ever been home? I don’t know, have you ever won it?” the Leicester goalkeeper said, before being reminded of 1966. “Was that not the World Cup? “To be honest, I haven’t given any thought to what it would mean to stop England more than what it would do for Denmark. “To be honest, I’ve focused very little on the England national team. It doesn’t really mean anything to me. “It’s what it would do for our country back home. The joy it would bring to a country of only five-and-a-half million ...

How Denmark could line up against England

How Denmark could line up against England

Denmark, ENGLAND, EURO 2020, FIFA, Football, Sports, UEFA
Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand has no need to change a winning formula for his side's Euro 2020 semi-final encounter with England at Wembley on Wednesday. The Scandinavian side booked their place in the final four courtesy of a 2-1 success over the Czech Republic, and it would not be surprising to see Hjulmand keep faith in the same XI in the English capital. Christian Eriksen continues to be closely observed after his cardiac arrest on matchday one, but Hjulmand is otherwise expected to have everyone fit and available for Wednesday's encounter after Yussuf Poulsen was fit enough to come off the bench against the Czechs. The RB Leipzig man is pushing for a start here, but Kasper Dolberg followed up his brace against Wales with his...

Denmark, EURO 2020, EUROPE, FIFA, Football, Sports, UEFA
Danish players trained on Monday for the first time since Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest as Kasper Hjulmand's side put on a brave face following Saturday's distressing scenes in Copenhagen. The former Tottenham midfielder, who now plays for Inter Milan, required 13 minutes of CPR after collapsing just before half-time but was taken to hospital in a stable condition, where he remains. With Eriksen's permission, the Danes elected to resume the game against Finland just two hours after the incident, a move that legend Peter Schmeichel has described as 'ridiculous'. And Hjulmand's side have taken to the training pitch at their base in Elsinore, Denmark, for the first time without their star man. Captain Simon Kjaer, who has won praise for his heroics during the ordeal...

Denmark ceases rollout of AstraZeneca vaccine completely

BREAKING NEWS, COVID-19, Denmark, WORLD, World Health Organization
Denmark has ceased giving the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine amid concerns about rare cases of blood clots, the first European country to do so fully. The move is expected to delay the country's vaccination programme by several weeks. Drug watchdog the European Medicines Agency last week announced a possible link with clots but said the risk of dying of Covid-19 was much greater. Several European countries had previously briefly suspended the jab. Most have now resumed vaccinations with AstraZeneca, but often with limits to older age groups.
