The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court has granted human rights lawyer Nicholas Opiyo bail.
Opiyo appeared before Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga for his bail application hearing.
Justice Kajuga granted Opiyo Shs15m cash bail.
She rejected prosecution’s argument that Opiyo has no known place of abode, reminding the state attorney that police had made a search on the lawyer’s home.
The judge further ruled that the nature of the charges cannot be used to take away Opiyo’s presumption of innocence until guilt has been proven.
Days ago, Buganda Road Court had remanded Opiyo to Kitalya Prison until January 11.
This was the third court Opiyo appeared before since his arrest from Lamaro Restaurant in Kamwokya, Kampala, on December 22.
