Botswana: PUBLIC WARNING! FLOODED A3 ROAD SECTION NEAR GHANZI

The public is informed that a section of the A3 road approximately 70km from Ghanzi has been flooded by rain water and this poses danger to road users specifically motorists. The section of road is between D’Kar and Kuke. A team of Roads Engineers based in Ghanzi are working closely with Police to monitor the situation. No immediate damage to the roads has been observed and warnings signs have been visibly erected to guide motorists. This flooded section of road covers a stretch of about 1.2km. Motorists are urged to be ALERT on the roads nation-wide as rain water has affected a number of roads across the country. The Ministry of Transport and Communications informs the public that works relating to the installation of new modernised traffic signals equipment, including traffic monitoring and enforcement equipment, has commenced at the intersections of K T Motsete Drive (β€œWestern Bypass” - A1) and Molepolole Road (β€œMolapo Crossing” junction). Currently, preparatory underground infrastructure works (cable channeling) are in progress. The contractor’s schedule estimates that the new traffic lights will be operational by the end of March 2021 at the latest. During this period, traffic management measures will be taken on site, including road works signage and flagmen when necessary to guide road users and ensure safety on the roads. Marang Pearl Matsuokwane is a Master of Science –Statistics student at Botswana International University of Science and Technology in Palapye. She is a recipient of the Best Student in the Department of Mathematics and Statistical Sciences award (sponsored by BIFM), class of 2020. Matsuokwane was the only female recipient of the best student award among ten male colleagues at the Class of 2020 Top Achievers Awards Ceremony.
