Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced the first confirmed case of the coronavirus in Kenya.
The
patient, the CS said in a statement, tested positive yesterday had
travelled from Ohio in US via London to Nairobi has been isolated at
Kenyatta National Hospital and is in a stable condition.
“The government has taken preventative measures and is monitoring the patient… who is stable,” said health Kagwe.
According to the minister who was addressing a press conference in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, the patient is arrived in the Country on March 5, 2020 from the United States of America via London.
The minister said that the patient was diagnosed on March 12 and his condition is now stable.
The confirmation makes Kenya the first country in the East African community to confirm a case of the coronavirus since its outbreak in China in December last year.
