A Four storey building last night collapsed in Makindye Division behind Calendar Guest House.
According to Police, a number of people are trapped under the rubble.
The incident is believed to have happened September 11th at around 09:00PM.
Police has responded to a distress call in Kelezia zone, Makindye division where a four storeyed building under construction has collapsed.
Its believed that a number of people are trapped under the rubble but rescue efforts are underway by a joint team of Police Fire and Rescue services and KCCA.
The building is located in Kifampa zone of Makindye division behind Calendar Rest House.
Neighbours and other young men gathered around the accident scene and used various tools including axes, hoes and hammers to try and dig out the victims, who were residing at the site.
A firebrigade truck, that had arrived earlier at the scene, left without accomplishing much although the Police maintained heavy deployment around the area. Rescuers and curious onlookers used mainly phones and hand flashlights to provide light for those trying to rescue the victims.
Some eyewitnesses claimed the workers were gathered in one of the unfinished rooms having their supper when the building collapsed at about 8-9pm.
By press time, one person had been rescued while several others remained trapped under the debris.
According to the Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the incident is believed to have happened at around 9pm in Klezia Zone, Makindye division Kampala district, behind Calendar hotel.
The development comes only hours after a heavy downpour ravaged several parts of Kampala leading to floods, whereas two bodies were recovered from Nakivubo channel at Clock Tower after the deceased were swept by water on Friday.
