Ugandan Players Abroad: Onyango, Lwanga pick up vital wins in CAF Champions League, Kyeyune set to make Merreick debut

What an exciting weekend it was for a number of Ugandan players in the diaspora.

From the CAF Champions where Uganda has representatives as Denis Onyango, Taddeo Lwanga, Saidi Kyeyune, Joseph Ochaya, to the CAF Confederation and the rest of different leagues across the globe.

CAF Champions League:

Custodian Denis Onyango kept a clean as his Mamelodi Sundowns side beat Sudan outfit Al Hilal Omdurman in group B match day one at he Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

Custodian Salim Jamal was an unused substitute for the visitors.

In the same group, Joseph Ochaya played full time as his TP Mazembe side drew goalless at home against Algerian side Belouizdad.

Meanwhile, Taddeo Lwanga made his continental debut for his Simba SC side playing full time as they pipped hosts AS Vita 1-0 at the Martyrs stadium in Kinshasa.

He also got booked in the 69th minute for unsportsmanlike conduct.

In group C, custodian Robert Odongkara was an unused substitute as his Guinea Conakry side Horoya beat Angolan side Petro Luanda 2-0 at home.

Elsewhere, midfielder Saidi Kyeyune is set to make his debut at Sudan side Al Merreick when they play away against defending champions Al Ahly on Tuesday at Cairo International stadium as he is part of the team that travelled.

In the CAF Confederation cup, Abdu Lumala wasn’t in the match day squad as his Pyramids FC beat Ivory Coast’s RC Abijan 2-0 on the road to near progress to the lucrative group stages.

In the Morocco Botola Pro League, forward Patrick Henry Kaddu put up a great performance for his Youssoufia Berrechid side as they beat his former side RS Berkane 1-0 at home.

He started before he was replaced in the 71st minute for Hawassi.

Another forward Nelson Senkatuka wasn’t in the match day squad due to an ankle injury as his Mogreb Tetouan side drew 1-1 at Hassania Agadir.
In the Danish Premier League, Moses Opondo started before he was subbed for Thrandarson in the 77th minute as his Odense FC side drew goalless against Aarhus.

Still in Denmark, midfielder Robert Kakeeto started and was later taken off for Klitten in the 72nd minute as his Aalborg FC side drew goalless at home against Randers FC. He also got booked in the 38th minute.

In the South Africa DSTV Premier League, Moses Waiswa was an unused substitute as his Supersport United side beat Cape Town City 2-1 at home.
Custodian Ismail Watenga wasn’t in the match day squad as his Chippa United side drew goalless at Bloemfontein Celtic.

In the South African division 2, Daniel Isiagi wasn’t in the match day squad due to a knock in his thigh as his  Jomo Cosmos side lost 2-1 at Bizana Pondo Chiefs.

In Turkey, Farouk Miya started before paving way for Shengelia in the 76th minute as his Konyaspor FC beat Denizlispor 2-0 at home to return to winning ways.

In the English Championship, physical forward Karl Mubiru Ikpeauzi played full time and also got booked in added time as his Wycombe Wanderers side beat Huddersfield 3-2 on the road.

Still in the English Championship, Young starlet Jayden Onen was an unused substitute as his Reading FC side lost 2-1 at home against Millwall.

In the English League 2, Right back Elvis Bwomono played full time as his Southend United side drew goalless at Cambridge.

In the Israel Ligat HA’al, Timothy Awany played full time while Fahad Bayo was taken off in the 40th minute for Brihon as his Ashdod FC drew goalless at home against Sakhnin.

William Luwagga Kizito played full time as the Target man as his Hapoel Kfar Saba lost 1-0 at home against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

In the Portuguese Segunda, Alex Kakuba wasn’t in the match day squad as his CD Cova Piedade lost 2-1 at Academica.

In the Scottish Premier League, defender Bevis Mugabi was subbed in the 68th minute for Johnston as his Motherwell FC side lost 4-1 at home against Hamilton.

In the Indian I-League, Richard Kasagga Wasn’t in the match day squad as his Aizawl FC drew 1-1 against Sudeva Delhi.

In Zambia, left back Shafiq Batambuze played full time as his Kabwe Worriors side drew goalless at Indeni.

Meanwhile custodian Yasin Mugabi put up another great display as his Red Arrows side drew 1-1 against Zanaco. custodian James Alitho wasn’t in the match day squad for Zanaco.

In Algeria, Allan Okello featured as his Paradou AC drew goalless at Bel Abbes.

In the Burundi Primus Premier League, midfielder Allan Brian Kizza and defender Steven Mugisha played full time as their Le Messanger Ngozi best Muzinga 2-0 at home.

Defender Joseph Othieno played full time as his Musongati FC side won it late 1-0 At Flambeau du Centre.

In the Egyptian cup, Emmanuel Okwi featured as his Al Ittihad side beat Nagoom 2-1 to sail through the next round.

Allan Kyambadde wasn’t in the match day squad due to a groin injury as his El Gouna side crushed Kima Aswan 6-1 at home to progress to the next round.

In the Germany Bundesliga 2., Herbert Bochorn started before paving way for Ganvoula in the 66th minute as his Bochum FC side beat Braunschweig 2-0 at home.
