Uganda Red Cross Society has confirmed that five people have died, 50 still missing and more than 100 houses have been destroyed after a heavy down pour in the Eastern region of Bududa, Mbale district.
The deceased are : Mary Serina Kibone, 73, Patrick Wakuwemba, 4, Stella Alice, 7, Mary Kimono, 13 and another of an identified boy.
Uganda Red Cross spokesperson, Irene Nakasiita confirmed the details about the deceased. she said “We can confirm that five bodies have been recovered in a rescue effort and our team is working with the district officials and the locals to try to see if there are more bodies. The area that has been affected by the latest floods is vast,”
Mrs. Nakasiita added that added that three villages and a parish were badly affected by the heavy rain pours.
The Uganda Red Cross is working alongside rescue teams to evacuate and recover other missing and injured persons.
