BIEH, South Sudan
At least 40 people have been killed and more than 70 injured during separate cattle related attacks in South Sudan’s region of Kuolabiel and Duachan counties in Bieh State.
According to the State Minister for Information for Bieh State Peter Nin, herders from the area were attacked while driving their cattle towards the area of Akobo in search for water and pasture for their animals.
He stressed: “It happened in two of the areas where some murle [Youth allegedly] attacked the cattle keepers on their way to water points in Akobo and Nyerol East,”
The Minister further stated that most of the victims were women, children and the youth who tried to fight back.
“They killed more than 40 people and most of them are women and children plus youth who fought them.” He stated.
The Minister added that the attackers stole more than 6,000 heads of cattle.
