The chairman of Uganda National Examinations Board, Mr Dan Odongo has requested Parliament to provide the board with money for field examination personnel.
He made the remarks while presenting the Ministerial Statements to the Education and Sports committee of parliament presided over by the Chairperson, Hon. James Kubeketerya also Bunya County East MP said if invigilators are well remunerated they will be discouraged from soliciting for bribes.

Mr Odongo called on the committee further supports UNEB in securing funding for the unfunded and underfunded activities for financial year 2026/27 will help the board execute its mandate of conducting, managing, and regulating primary, secondary, and technical examinations in Uganda.
Kajara County MP, Hon. Michael Kamugisha Timuzigu said there is need for the board to set special exams for learners whose results were withheld because the females are opting for marriage and the males are abusing in substance abuse.
Bukomansimbi South MP, Hon. Solo Kayemba wondered why the board does not arrest and prosecute head teachers because it’s the learners who suffer the consequences yet they are innocent.
Mr Ondongo rejected the proposal saying that Uganda needs to maintain the respect globally because it awards nationally and internationally recognized certificates to successful candidates, conducting research on examinations, and ensuring high-quality assessment standards.
He said that the board continues to register cases of examination mal practice and fraud perpetuated by Schools directors and head teachers to popularize their schools.
The UNEB boos, added that there is need to enhance field conduct of examinations to enable travel inland budget item caters for the field transport of examinations, chief invigilators, invigilators, scouts and area supervisors. It also caters for the transport of markers to and from marking centres. The rates for invigilators has increased from Shs 35,000 to 45,000 daily transport costs and supervision allowance.
