airforceThe Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has commissioned a new multi-million library at Entebbe Air Force Secondary School aimed at strengthening the school’s academic environment and improving learning for students.

Representing the Commander Air Force, the Deputy Commander Air Force, Major Gen David Isimbwa, urged students to use the facility responsibly and make the most of the opportunity it presents for academic growth.

“This library should be used to improve learning and academic performance. It must be protected and properly utilised,” he said.

Maj Gen Isimbwa appreciated the contribution of partners who supported the school with computers and other learning resources, saying such partnerships are critical in enhancing the quality of education.

The Joint Staff, Formal Education, Sports and Culture Brigadier General Richard Karemire, commended the school for its performance and growing reputation and described the school as one of the best-performing institutions among army schools.

He stressed the importance of military schools in nurturing patriotism while providing quality education to the children of soldiers.

“Our schools must be factories of patriotism and also provide good education to the children of soldiers so that airmen can concentrate on duty without worrying about their children’s education,” he said.

Brig Gen Karemire announced a commitment of shs100 million towards the construction of a two-classroom block in the next financial year to help reduce congestion and phase out temporary learning spaces.

In his remarks, the headteacher, Major Nathan Ampaire, attributed the improved progress and achievements registered by the school to the unwavering support of its stakeholders.

He said the institution is now focused on expanding its infrastructure and learning facilities to match its growing needs, including additional classrooms, more textbooks and computers.

The headteacher urges expanded dormitory space, a proper playground, and the construction of a main hall to provide a more conducive environment for assemblies and student activities, especially during bad weather.

The school currently has a population of 2,895 students.

Among those in attendance during the commissioning were Menzi Aviation who donated 16 standalone computers to support digital learning, while Rotary Club of Entebbe has been involved in mentoring students and supporting tree planting around the school.
