BUDAPEST, March 19, 2026 – Sándor Dávid, a legend of Hungarian sports journalism, one of the “fathers” of Formula 1 broadcasting in Hungary, and a former Lifetime Achievement Award recipient of the Hungarian Sports Journalists’ Association, has passed away in his 90th year.
Among his many roles, he was a senior writer at Népsport and head of the Olympic sports section; he worked at the sports department of Hungarian Television (MTV), first as a staff member and later as deputy head of department; he was also a founding member of the Hungarian editorial team of Eurosport and served as press chief of the Hungaroring. He authored more than a dozen books—among them several on Formula 1—but perhaps his best-known work is Balczó, which went through three editions.
Zsuzsa Csisztu, AIPS Vice President, had the privilege of conducting one of his final public interviews last summer, ahead of the 40th Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix.AIPS MEDIA
