Mukono — The prime suspect in the murder of Uganda Christian University (UCU) Dean of Students, Pamela Tumwebaze, has this Friday afternoon been brought to the Mukono Chief Magistrate’s Court under heavy security, including armed personnel from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT).
Hussein Dak Taewaiko, who has reportedly confessed to the killing, arrived at court escorted by a convoy of security operatives drawn from the Police, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and counter-terrorism units.
Eyewitnesses described a tightly controlled security perimeter around the court premises, with armed officers deployed at entry points.
The heightened security presence underscores the sensitivity and public interest surrounding the case, which has gripped the nation since Tumwebaze’s killing at her Mukono home.
Taewaiko was arrested on February 14 in Budaka District, where he had allegedly been hiding at his mother’s residence.
Investigators said he was found in possession of items believed to belong to the deceased. These included a smartphone.
Police have since conducted a reconstruction of the crime scene as part of ongoing investigations into the motive and whether other individuals may have been involved.
Tumwebaze, a respected academic administrator and mother of two, was laid to rest last week in Mbarara District, where family members demanded justice and a full account of the events that led to her death.
Court proceedings are expected to begin shortly.
