Ajuri County, Alebtong District – Thousands of residents, supporters, and well-wishers converged at the home of outgoing Ajuri County Member of Parliament and Government Chief Whip, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, on February 1, 2026, for a heartfelt thanksgiving prayer service.

The event, held shortly after the recent parliamentary elections where Obua conceded defeat to UPC candidate Fred Jalameso, served as a moment of gratitude and reflection. Obua, who represented Ajuri for three consecutive terms since the constituency’s creation in 2011, hosted the prayers to thank God and the people for the privilege of serving them.

In his address, Obua drew inspiration from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV): “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” He emphasized maintaining joy, persistent prayer, and gratitude in every situation, declaring it God’s will for believers. “To God be the glory,” he concluded.
Reflecting on his journey, Obua described it as that of faith for a boy from a humble background in Ajuri to rise to national leadership. He likened it to the biblical question about good coming from Nazareth, highlighting divine favor and community support. “Leadership is from God,” he said.
Obua outlined significant transformations during his tenure. When he joined leadership, Ajuri had three sub-counties; it now has seven, with five connected to electricity and the last two mapped for connection. Secondary schools increased from three to eight, spread across all sub-counties, while Ajuri boasts four seed schools—the highest in Uganda.
Health infrastructure advanced with three new health centers, a government ambulance, a well-equipped medical theatre, and support for all seven centers with beds. Two ambulances aided emergencies. Agricultural support included two handheld tractors per sub-county and hand hoes for women over 18.
Infrastructure projects featured bridges in Otoke, Aguru, and Ajuri (with Ayumu underway), World Bank-renovated primary schools, solar lights in seven urban centers, widespread water projects, repaired boreholes, and renovations aided by partners like Tororo Cement and Plan International.
Obua also organized medical/surgical camps with the UPDF and supported churches and mosques. Personal credentials include roles as Commissioner of Parliament, State Minister for Sports, Chairperson of the Science and Technology Committee, and Spokesperson for the Commonwealth Youth Forum. He was voted best-performing MP in 2010 with a 100% rating.
The gathering underscored community appreciation for Obua’s contributions, blending faith, reflection, and celebration as he transitions from elective office while pledging continued service to Northern Uganda.
