KAMPALA — Salim Uhuru has been officially declared the winner of the Kampala Central Division mayoral election after securing 32,759 votes, according to results released by the Electoral Commission.
The declaration was made at the Kampala Central tally centre following the completion of vote tallying from all polling stations in the division, marking the conclusion of a closely contested race.
Uhuru, who was contesting on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, emerged victorious over his challengers in an election that attracted significant public and political interest within the capital.
The announcement came after several hours of delays at the tally centre, as electoral officials finalised the verification of results. Supporters from various political camps remained at the venue throughout the process, while security personnel were deployed to ensure order during and after the declaration.
Addressing the media shortly after being announced winner, Uhuru thanked residents of Kampala Central for renewing their trust in his leadership and pledged to prioritise service delivery and development.
“I am grateful to the people of Kampala Central for the confidence they have placed in me. My commitment is to work towards improved service delivery, infrastructure development and better governance,” Uhuru said.
The Kampala Central mayoral race was among the most competitive contests in Kampala, reflecting the division’s political significance and the high stakes involved for the competing parties.
The Electoral Commission called on all candidates and their supporters to respect the declared results and to pursue any grievances through legally established channels.
