The Nansana mayoral contest has attracted significant attention, with Bakitte facing strong competition from John Bosco Sserunkuuma of the National Unity Platform and Hamidu Kizito Nsubuga of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Voters turned up steadily at various polling stations, with security deployed to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting exercise. Election officials reported that the process at Kanyange Primary School proceeded smoothly, with no major incidents recorded by the time of Bakitte’s vote.
The outcome of the Nansana Municipality mayoral race is expected to shape local governance in the rapidly growing urban area, which continues to face challenges related to infrastructure, service delivery, and urban planning.
Vote tallying is expected to begin immediately after the close of polling, with results to be announced by the Electoral Commission.
